Physiotherapy for WSIB Claims in Newmarket

Yes, Spectrum Physiotherapy accepts WSIB claims. We are a registered WSIB service provider in Newmarket, and once your claim is approved, we bill WSIB directly for your physiotherapy. We treat workplace injuries for workers from Newmarket and across York Region, and we can help with the WSIB paperwork and your return-to-work plan.

You don’t need a doctor’s referral to see a physiotherapist in Ontario, so you can book an assessment as soon as you’re hurt at work.

How a WSIB Claim Works

  1. Report the injury to your employer as soon as possible and get first aid or health care if you need it.
  2. Your employer files a Form 7 (Employer’s Report of Injury/Disease) with WSIB, generally within three business days of learning that you needed health care or lost time from work.
  3. You file a Form 6 (Worker’s Report of Injury/Disease). You have six months from the date of the injury to make a claim. Forms are available on the WSIB website.
  4. Your health professional files a Form 8 (Health Professional’s Report). Physiotherapists are one of the health professionals who can complete this report, so we can submit it after your first visit.
  5. WSIB assigns a claim number and decides whether your claim is allowed. Keep your claim number handy, as you’ll use it at every appointment.

How We Help With Your Claim

  • Assessment and treatment: a thorough assessment of your injury and an individualized, exercise-based treatment plan focused on getting you back to work safely.
  • WSIB forms and reports: we complete the Health Professional’s Report (Form 8), Functional Abilities Forms when they’re needed, and progress reports to WSIB.
  • Return-to-work planning: we help identify what you can safely do at work, including modified duties or graduated hours, and progress your plan as you recover.
  • Functional abilities evaluations: a detailed assessment of your physical abilities to show which job tasks you can safely perform.
  • Ergonomic assessments: advice on setting up your workstation to reduce strain and lower the chance of the injury coming back.

Our physiotherapists, including Dwayne Rebello, MSc. PT, regularly treat WSIB patients.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a doctor’s referral for WSIB physiotherapy?
No. Physiotherapists are direct-access health professionals in Ontario, so you can book with us directly.

Can I start physiotherapy before my claim is approved?
Yes, you can book an assessment right away, and your physiotherapist can submit a Form 8 to WSIB after your first visit. Coverage for ongoing treatment depends on WSIB allowing your claim, so we’ll explain your options while your claim is being reviewed.

What should I bring to my first appointment?
Your WSIB claim number if you have one, your employer’s name and address, the date and details of the injury, and any forms or notes from your employer, doctor or hospital.

What if an old work injury flares up again?
You can contact WSIB to ask about reopening or reviewing your claim. Let us know about the previous claim, and we can assess your condition and provide the information WSIB may need.

Do you also treat injuries that aren’t covered by WSIB?
Yes. We treat injuries covered by extended health insurance and car insurance as well, and offer direct billing to many extended health plans. See also physiotherapy after a car accident.
